In the Heart of Brixton

If you’ve been anywhere near Coldharbour Lane in Brixton over the past couple of weeks then you may have already spotted Turpentine, the new ‘creative retail hub’ which offers a whole host of goodies which have been handmade.
The store – formed by Amber Rogers, Alice Waters and Judith de Berker – originated as a pop-up, selling indie craft, art and giftware, and has now evolved into a shop with its very own permanent residence at 433 Coldharbour Lane. Their cute and quirky items have been created by almost 50 ‘indie-makers’ and range from £15 to £50 – so there’s something to suit every budget!
What’s even better, The Turpentine will run evening and weekend workshops on all sorts of arts & crafts, from jewellery-making and floristry to life-drawing and photography – all led by co-founder Judith de Berker, who attended Central St. Martins.
Pop on by to see it for yourself!

Animal Farm

We’ve fallen pretty hard for Nach‘s animal rings,  we love the idea of having a whole zoo displayed on our knuckles!
Each piece is handmade from porcelain by the sister duo, and we think you’ll agree – pretty darn cute!

Cute Crochet

We’re big fans of crocheted wares and cute little animals, so when the two worlds collide together you know it’s going to be something special. Check out these tiny little creations from Su Ami
The Vietnamese crochet-ers must have the most nimble fingers to get such amazing detail in the tiny little animals. They make everything from a family of penguins, a whale or a piglet to a little monkey or even a billy goat! If you want to get one for yourself, check out their shop on Etsy here

Peter Pan

It’s safe to safe we’re a little obsessed with peter pan collars here at Cellardoor HQ, let’s face it who isn’t! So when we saw this tutorial over at The Beauty Department we couldn’t resist having a go at trying the cute collars on our nails too.  We might need a little more practice though…
Let us know if you try it too!

Farm Girls

If there are two things we love at Cellardoor, it’s dresses and cute animals – when the two collide it’s almost a little bit too exciting. So you can imagine how we felt when we stumbled across Elkin’s spring/summer 2012 look book…
The collection features dresses of all shapes and sizes – gingham, floral, a-line, maxi – all with a fun and girly feel. And as if the farm animals weren’t enough to make you say aww, for every item they sell they donate one book to H.O.P.E – a non-profit organisation bringing art to those in need. Cute AND charitable!

Perfect Presents to Please Even the Pickiest!

Everyone has one. A difficult friend whose birthday is approaching. A friend who you know is lying when she says “Don’t worry, you don’t need to buy me a birthday present”, but you’re too scared to find out for sure. A friend who doesn’t eat chocolate or cupcakes as she suspects she’s lactose and wheat intolerant and who’s decided to cut out alcohol(!). Who also doesn’t enjoy reading so there’s no point in buying her the new Audrey Niffenegger.  Who has really sensitive skin so you couldn’t possibly buy her anything from Benefit or Shu Umera.  Who is has quite a particular style so would probably turn her nose up at that floral silk scarf from Topshop… In short, a friend who is an absolute nightmare to buy for.  Well don’t worry, help is at hand. Kiss goodbye to having to spend desperate lunch hours in Accessorize, instead sit back, relax and check out  A one-stop internet shop of goodies that couldn’t fail to please even the pickiest of people. With a wide and varying range from apple crate herb boxes to furniture, to hampers to jewellery there is literally something for everyone, and you can be sure to find the perfect present for your not-so-perfect friend without tearing your hair out or terminating the friendship in the process.
