Meet… Copper Garden

For the next instalment of our Meet the Blogger… series we grilled menswear fashion student Jessica from Copper Garden. Read on to find more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is ‘Copper Garden’ for those that don’t already know?
Copper Garden is a little 5ft2 girl named Jess – or myself. I’m 22, living just outside of London and studying towards a degree in menswear design.

How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I began with YouTube at the age of 16/17 but my camera was terrible and despite doing quite well, I got embarrassed when people I knew found out (hence the video I did with fellow youtuber ‘its simply beauty’ about why you shouldn’t be embarrassed). It wasn’t until I was almost 19 that I realised I missed the community so I began a blog – again with terrible pictures. I kept it secret from everyone until my boyfriend saw blogger open on my laptop and he’s been my photographer ever since!

 What inspires your blog posts?
I go to lookbook quite a bit for inspiration, there are so many amazingly dressed people around the world who post to there so its good for getting ideas – its helped me wear clothes that haven’t left my wardrobes in months or years! I do mostly post my own personal style pictures because this is what I most enjoy reading and find the most enjoyable. Its also cool to think that in a few years, I can look back and compare my style then to now.

How would you describe your style?
Quite boyish. I don’t tend to wear many feminine shapes, patterns or styles. My main outfits include trousers and an oversized top! I think my style is a mixture of Alexa Chung and the Olsens

What three items can you not live without?
My Macbook (ironic as it just broke), Canon 600d and iPhone – how typical of me! Can I say four and add a cosy jumper?

What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
I’m normally doing uni work, seeing my friends and boyfriend, making some menswear to add to my portfolio or watching Hollyoaks. Its my guilty pleasure.

Tell us something no one else knows about you…
I absolutely love Star Wars and Harry Potter.

What other bloggers are on your reading list?
I follow a nice mix of bloggers, I love reading my feed and seeing a mixture of fashions. My current favourites are Tilly Jayne, Paige JoannaThe Fashion Wonderland, A Design Rookie and so many more. I couldn’t give you a favourite!

Meet… The Girl in the Bowler Hat

For the next instalment of our Meet the Blogger… series we grilled fashion journalism student, Amy  from The Girl in the Bowler Hat. Read on to find more about the girl behind the blog…
Ok, first up who is ‘Girl in the Bowler Hat’ for those that don’t already know?
My name is Amy, and I’m a 21 year old blogger currently living in the North East of England. My blog, The Girl in the Bowler Hat, is a bit of everything really, but I focus mainly on taking plenty of personal style posts in hidden gems I’ve found in my hometown.
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I’ve been running my current blog for just over 18 months and I am loving it more than ever at the moment! This isn’t actually my first blog, as I’ve had a few in the past, but none of those ever felt right. So, I racked my brains and The Girl in the Bowler Hat was born and I’m very proud of it. I began my blog after spending years reading them and thinking ‘Oh hey, I could do that’ so I decided to give it a whirl. It felt like a nice sideline while studying my degree in fashion journalism.
 What inspires your blog posts?
A lot of my inspiration comes from other blogs, as there is such a huge amount of talent and a lot of what I know I’ve learnt from fellow bloggers. You name it, it’s been blogged before. I also gain a lot of inspiration from just day to day life, if I’ve had any exciting days, if I see someone in the street wearing an outfit I love, that sort of thing. Although I probably should, I rarely plan ahead with my blog posts – I tend to just go with what I want to post about at the time. Of course, I love the usuals too, with my fail-safe inspiration places being Pinterest and a good film marathon.
How would you describe your style?
I think my style changes quite a lot, and there’s no fixed ‘look’ I tend to go for. My favourite era is the 60s, and I think I’ll always have a love for a-line skirts and collared dresses. Think Alexa Chung meets Audrey Hepburn meets Emma Watson (and a little bit of Blair Waldorf thrown in there for good measure).
What three items can you not live without?
My Macbook, which pretty much contents my whole life. I’d also say magazines, as I’m a big of a magazine junkie (and currently own more than 150 – eek). Finally, my iPhone, not just because of Twitter, or Instagram( although I’m massively for social media) but to listen to music on. I’m always listening to music!
What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
Just the usual really, spending time with my friends, reading, watching an obscene amount of television. I also love photography, it’s an area I’d love to branch into in the future.

Tell us something no one else knows about you…
I’m a little bit (a lot) obsessed with Gossip Girl, and also Criminal Minds… you know, because the two programmes are so similar.
What other bloggers are on your reading list?
Oh gosh, there’s so many! My favourites have to be Wish Wish Wish and What Olivia Did – I’ve been reading both of those blogs for as long as I can remember. There’s a whole host of NE bloggers I love too, such as Talking About M, The Lovecats Inc, and Thumbelina Lillie
And lastly, as we’ve just released our travel issue, we want to know your favourite holiday destination.
Well, I’m not the most travelled unfortunately! However, me and my family have been to the island of Menorca many times, and it’s a beautiful place.

Meet… In the Frow

For the next instalment of our Meet the Blogger… series we grilled the candy floss haired beauty that is Victoria from In the Frow. The fashion and beauty blogger manages to juggle her time being a lecturer in Fashion Retailing with writing product reviews and posting her latest looks. Read on to find more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is ‘In the Frow’ for those that don’t already know?

Well I am Victoria, a fashion lecturer from Manchester who recently finished a PhD in fashion application design. In my spare time, I review and recommend the latest clothing and beauty products on my blog, Inthefrow where I post my outfits and product reviews.
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I have been blogging for 15 months now and it has been a brilliant journey into the blogging world. I just wanted somewhere to provide my own opinions about products as well as new garments I had found, so I started my blog one night and never looked back.

What inspires your blog posts?
I’m inspired by a lot of other bloggers, youtubers, celebs and fashion in general every day. I spend a lot of time on social media and try to keep up to date with what is happening in the industry, so when I see something new, I can get writing about it as soon as possible.
How would you describe your style?
My style at the moment has gone quite sophisticated and sleek I guess. I’m often in skinny trousers with heeled boots or wedges and a cute coat. It’s quite tailored, but generally I love to mix up trends and wear things I feel comfortable in, which means that day to day I wear entirely different outfits and styles.
What three items can you not live without?
I couldnt live without an amazing pair of jeans as they are always my go to for a more casual day where I still want to look put together. I also adore my camel jacket I recently bought from Sandro – everyone needs a camel coat! And lastly I would say my designer handbag, at the moment I’m using my Mulberry bag. I just feel so much better knowing I have a bag I love with me.

What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
When Im not blogging, I’m usually out eating with friends. Otherwise I am working out, watching Youtube videos, cooking or shopping.
Tell us something no one else knows about you…
Im not sure if no one knows, but definitely a lot of people won’t. My face is on the Salt and Black Pepper flavour bag of Real crisps. I had much shorter hair back then and it was silvery white. You would never recognise me if I didn’t say!
And lastly, as we’re releasing our travel issue, we want to know your favourite holiday destination.
Without a doubt, I adore North America. I recently travelled around there for three months and it was the best time of my life. If I had to give specifics, I’d say that Vegas, Arches National Park in Utah, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington D.C were the places to see. But if you can travel around the entirety of it like I did, then make sure you do it!

Meet… Girl in the Lens

Our next instalment of Meet the Blogger comes from Natasha at Girl in the Lens, which she runs with her boyfriend alongside her full time job and being an author… phew! We caught up with the girl behind the blog, and found out how she manages to fit it all in!

Ok, first up who is ‘Girl in The Lens’ for those that don’t already know?
I’m a 23 year-old, half-Chinese half-English girl from a town near London who studied Geography at uni but somehow ended up working in fashion and social media!
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I run Girl in the Lens with my boyfriend, Callum (I guess you could call him the Boy Behind the Lens!). We started it just over two years ago as a creative project between the two of us – me writing and styling, Callum doing all the photography and design – and it’s since grown into something much larger and more wonderful than we ever anticipated! We still have the same ethos behind it though as we did when we first started – the blog is a space to explore our creativity and have fun with photography. That will never change.

What inspires your blog posts?
We tend to shoot outside, as we love natural light and the changing colours of the season. Sometimes we keep to our local areas, and sometimes we find somewhere special to take a more creative shoot. We’re actually in the process of redesigning the blog and will be focusing more on lifestyle posts in the future. Not that I’m bored of fashion! But Callum has so much more to offer as a photographer, and it’ll push us to have more adventures and try new things to share with our readers.
How would you describe your style?
Casual but polished, preppy, non-committed. It’s still evolving day by day.
You’re also a YA author. How did that come about… and how do you fit it all in!
I never stop! I actually juggle three jobs (alongside blogging and being an author, I am a freelance social media consultant and writer), and it is always a little crazy trying to keep on top of everything. But you only live once, so I’d rather always be busy and make the most of the time I have! Being an author is what I’ve always wanted to do though. Ever since young, it was a dream of mine to have a novel published, and I was always writing. I got my publishing deal the traditional way – I wrote a novel, submitted it to agents, who then submitted it to publishers … and then we were lucky enough to get a wonderful two-book deal! It’s a dream, being able to see my words out there in the world.
What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
Most of the time I’m writing (or thinking about writing), but I also love reading, having long baths, watching marathon runs of old shows I love like The OC, going for walks, nights in Callum, doing yoga, exercising, playing video games, travelling, seeing friends and family … oh, and eating. Lots of eating.
What three items can you not live without?
A ring Callum gave me for my 23rd birthday with a line from my novel engraved on the inside, my Kindle (and all the books on it), and my new MacBook Air.

Tell us something no one else knows about you…
The crazy stuff that goes in my brain. Stories are writing themselves in there all day, every day. I can’t keep up!
And lastly, as we’re releasing our travel issue, we want to know your favourite holiday destination?
Pangkor Laut in Malaysia. I grew up in Malaysia – it’s one of my favourite places on earth. While it has a lot of gorgeous coastal resorts and islands, Pangkor Laut is special. My mum took me, my dad and Callum there a few years ago as a treat. We were only there a few days, but I could have stayed for weeks.

Meet… Alex Loves

It was about time we got nosey again and the next instalment of our Meet the Blogger series comes from Alex over at Alex Loves. We love her blog with it’s mix of insider fashion knowledge, food reviews and she’s even got us wanting to get fit with new venture Fashercise! Read on to find out more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is ‘Alex Loves’ for those that don’t already know?
I’m a 28 year old Belgian girl living in London for the past decade. I’m a freelance journalist and a blogger, and Alex Loves is about all the things I love – fashion, food, places, people – it’s as simple as that.
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I’ve been blogging for nearly 4 years now. I never intended to be a blogger, but it just sort of happened. After an intense couple of years working for magazines and a luxury fashion brand, I decided to go freelance. Because I suddenly had a lot more free time, I decided to keep myself busy by starting a blog. I never really thought it would lead to anything else, or that anyone other than my mom would want to read it, but here we are 4 years later… I worked very hard and have been very lucky to be doing this professionally!

What inspires your blog posts?
Events or places I went to, things that caught my eye, people I’ve met… it could be anything, really. I love the freedom a blog gives me, no one telling me what I can or can’t write.
How would you describe your style?
I’m not really a style blogger, so I don’t appear on my blog that much… I’d say my style is a little preppy, with a rock’n roll twist. I mostly wear black or dark colours, I tend to keep it very simple but always add something that pops, whether that’s an accessory, a colour, a collar or shoes. Less is more!
What three items can you not live without?
RayBan Wayfarers – I’m always wearing sunglasses
Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag- The first designer bag I ever bought myself
My iPhone – Always glued to my hand.
What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
I think blogging is a lifestyle, you can never really turn it off! A lot of my life revolves around blogging, a lot of my friends are bloggers – I’m never really not doing blog-related things! I did start running earlier this year, but I even turned that into a blog! It was the inspiration behind my new project http://www.fashercise.com.

Tell us something no one else knows about you…
A long long time ago I was a competitive showjumper!
And lastly, as we’re just about to release our travel issue, we want to know your favourite holiday destination.
This year I was lucky enough to visit Morocco 3 times and I must admit it’s been a true revelation, as it has so many different qualities. I can’t wait to explore the country further. My dream holiday would be driving across the USA, from East to West Coast.

Meet… Milk Bubble Tea

Our next instalment of our Meet the Blogger series comes from Becky over at Milk Bubble Tea. Read on to find out more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is ‘Milk Bubble Tea’?
My name is Becky, I’m 22 (almost 23)  and I am a dog person – if you have a dog, we will be friends! I don’t like tea or coffee  – I’m the adult who still orders a hot chocolate (with extra cream and marshmallows of course).  My camera is never far from my side and I hate mushrooms.

How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I’ve been blogging for just over a year and a half now. My blog started out as a online diary and somewhere to share my photographs along with daily snippets of my life. I’m constantly surprised at the comments I receive and the amount of followers who read my blog. I like to put effort and time into my blog posts but it’s my readers who make blogging really enjoyable for me!

What inspires your blog posts?

I love capturing moments in my photographs. Wether it be something big or something small. When I receive lovely compliments from readers of my blog telling me they love my photography, it really inspires me to keep it up.

How would you describe your style?

My style can vary from time to time but at the moment I’m currently living in my trusty pair of american apparel easy jeans and cosy jumpers. I’m a cream jumper (and general knitwear) hoarder!

What three items can you not live without?

This probably sounds really bad but my iPhone! Im always snapping photos on it, emailing, tweeting etc I always get plenty of eye rolls when instagram-ing my lunch before eating it, oops. 2. Concealer (is a girls best friend.) 3. My DSLR – I take my camera everywhere with me, every trip, even just on little walks with the dogs and adventures at the weekend!

What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?

When I’m not studying and my macbook isn’t glued to me. I like to take my dogs for long walks, go to the cinema often (and always buy a huge carton of salted popcorn, never sweet!) or spend time with my lovely boyfriend.

Tell us something no one else knows about you…
I have a little scar on my forehead from when I fell over when I was two, it’s exactly like Harry Potters.. Jealous?

And lastly, what’s your favourite thing about Winter?

Frosty mornings and fresh snow, I love walking on fresh snow and hearing that crunch underneath my feet!

Meet… Dearest Deer

Despite being fairly new on the blogging scene, Dunya over at Dearest Deer has fast become one of our favourites. We had a chat with the girl herself, so read on to find out more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is ‘Dearest Deer’?
My name is Dunya, I’m 21, and a third year student studying International Relations at Sussex University, living in Brighton and occasionally popping back home to Surrey in between!
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want to start it in the first place?
Blogging has been relatively new for me, I started around June/July of 2012, feeling very inspired since the start of 2012 by my friend Carrie and her blog WishWishWish! Seeing the way she told stories through beautiful photography and words got me into looking at other blogs and, before I knew it, I’d bought myself a camera and was plotting my own blog design!
What inspires your blog posts?
I’ve always liked the idea of capturing something in a photo, and I try to make my posts as much about where I am as what I’m wearing. At the start I did some straight up outfit posts but I think the inspiration has to be drawn from where I am at the time too, so I like to look for new places that can compliment my look and vice versa!
How would you describe your style?
It’s a bit of two things, on one side probably very typically girly; I like bows, velvet, polka dotted anything, but I also like my fair share of  masculine things, tailored trousers, brogues. The fun is mixing it all up! And it’s safe to say anything Alexa Chung and Zooey Deschanel/Jess wear are all inspirational!
What three items can you not live without?
I have a life-saving (by life I mean hair) hooded camel coat from Zara I received for my 20th birthday which, in our weather, I am so grateful for! My black denim American Apparel circle skirt saves the day when I feel like nothing else will match, and a very long-lasting pair of black suede topshop ankle boots from two years ago is my go-to when I want a low heel that will look nice but still be comfortable.
What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
A lot of my time is spent in front of my laptop, studying for my seminars! But when I’m away from my laptop I try to make the most of visiting charity shops nearby, spending time with fellow bloggers in London, and popping back home to Surrey.
Tell us something no one else knows about you…
I have a little dent on my top left cheek from an almost-fatal accident when I was 6. Look out for it in my next post!
And lastly, what’s your favourite thing about Winter?
Coming home from the cold, chucking all things wet or damp to the side, and putting the kettle on!

Meet… The Briar Rose

For the next instalment of our meet… the blogger series, we caught up with Megan from The Briar Rose. Inspired by her favourite Disney character, her blog is full of fairytale whimsy which we love! Read on to find out more about the girl behind the blog…

Ok, first up who is The Briar Rose?
The ‘Briar Rose’ was a title inspired by my favourite Disney character, Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. ‘Briar Rose’ has always been one of my favourite names, and when I first started blogging I thought it would be a fitting alias. Nowadays I just see it as the name of my blog, I doubt I will ever be able to call myself anything but ‘Megan’ – it just feels unnatural!
How long have you been blogging, and what made you want start it in the first place?
I started my blog in late August 2011, however I only started to post regularly in January 2012. As I was starting university, I decided I needed some kind of creative outlet that combined my love of writing with my interest in fashion and photography. I’d also seen a few people discuss how beneficial blogging could be for those trying to break into the fashion industry, and it began to feel like the natural direction for me to pursue.
 What inspires your blog posts?
Oh, all sorts of things! It could be a passage in one of my set texts for university, old films and story books, or just day-to-day events. Since I study creative writing I’ve got into a habit of writing down interesting dreams, little unexpected things I notice, and words I’d love to use in my own work. That can really help when it comes to putting together my blog posts. I’m also hugely inspired by my blogging friends, we’re all on the same wavelength and I love reading their posts as well as writing my own.
How would you describe your style?
It’s quite eclectic and changes with the wind. I adore sugary colours and soft fabrics, and I’m generally quite playful with the way I pair things together. It’s Florence Welch meets Marie Antoinette meets Strawberry Shortcake.
What three items can you not live without?
My camera, I’m the kind of person who photographs everything. It’s become a running joke in my family. I get through copious amounts of lip balm – I generally carry at least two pots! Finally I’d say hair dye, if I were stuck with my natural hair colour I would be extremely frustrated!
What do you get up to when you’re not blogging?
I love cooking and baking and I’m forever dreaming up new recipes – my latest discovery was apple and blackberry cupcakes! My first love is writing so I spend a lot of my time reading and working on numerous novel manuscripts. Earlier this year I started modelling, so I’ve started doing photo shoots fairly regularly which is always fun, especially when I’m working with photographers and brands I’ve developed a personal relationship with through my blog. Naturally university is quite demanding, however since a large chunk of that is creative writing it isn’t too strenuous!
Tell us something no one else knows about you…
When I’m ill or feeling down I watch cheesy children’s films like Thumbelina and The Swan Princess on Youtube to take my mind off things.
And lastly, what’s your favourite thing about Winter?
Christmas, it’s my absolute favourite time of the year. In particular I love the food and spending endless hours in a cosy kitchen baking mince pies, spiced biscuits, Cointreau cupcakes and caramel sweet potato tart! Indulgent winter food is my downfall.
