What We’re Listening To…

The release of Canadian indie-rock group Arcade Fire’s ‘Reflektor’ exposed fans to a more experimental, dance sound. Although, what stood out more than their new sound was the brilliant ‘We Exist’.
Steered by bass grooves in a similar vein to that of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’, the track isn’t especially ground-breaking – although it makes a fine addition to their arsenal of knockout tracks.
As well as this, Arcade Fire, who are currently touring under the name of ‘The Reflektors’, have blended slick and funky instrumentation with melodic brilliance that allows the track to soar.
The group have done it again – creating a dreamy, funked-up track that lingers in listeners’ minds for hours on end.

What We’re Listening To…

Back with a new cut that’s already sent the internet crazy in anticipation for their forthcoming album, Arcade Fire’s ‘Reflektor’ surfaced online a day prior to its planned unveiling in New York. The Canadian band feature backing vocals from David Bowie on the track, however representatives for the band commented stating they can “neither confirm nor deny” the rumours, whilst Bowie’s reps put an end to the debates a day later confirming the news.

The track opens with crackling embers before a disco groove beat kicks in, and we come to the realisation that this track is unlike anything else the group have done before. Their combination of sounds is so strange on this offering, you wouldn’t think it works but oddly it does.

Out on October 29th – this major tune with circling refrains and catchy hooks won’t leave your head for quite some time. Get on it.

What we’re listening to…

Back in 2009 this band captured us with their glorious rocky magic. After a three year respite the Local Natives have had to rearrange and adapt to the departure of their bassist player Andy Hamm. But like they say good things come to those who wait. And the wait has been waited. The magical quartet has returned with a promising second album: Hummingbird.

The band: Taylor Rice (main vocalist), Kelcey Ayer (vocals, percussion, guitar), Ryan Hahn (guitar, keyboards, mandolin, vocals) and Matt Frazier (drums) collaborated with the National’s Aaron Dessner to create the album. Both an exciting project for them and a near guarantee, for us, that A+B will make a pretty darn nice record!
Here is the video for the Local Natives’ single Breakers – occasionally reminding us of Arcade Fire edge and you can definitely detect the National’s trademark gentle drones…
You can also listen to the audio clip of Heavy Feet which premiered on Lauren Laverne’s BBC6 music show.
Order their new album plus get your hands on a fancy t-shirt and lithograph (a little pricey but worth it)!
They’ll next be playing live in Leeds at Brudenell Social Club Feb 8th and will be ending their UK tour in Dublin Feb 11. Click here for tickets.
